It also refers to the total amount of\nmoney the employer pays to the employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/prehr.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Advance-hr-payroll.jpg\" alt=\"payroll management cycles\" class=\"wp-image-118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/prehr.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Advance-hr-payroll.jpg 500w, https:\/\/prehr.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Advance-hr-payroll-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>It\nIncludes \u2013<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Developing company&#8217;s pay\npolicy which includes flexible benefits, leave encashment policy, etc.<\/li><li>Defining payslip components\nlike basic, variable pay, HRA, and LTA<\/li><li>Gathering other payroll\ninputs (e.g., organization\u2019s food vendor may supply information about the\namount to be recovered from the employees for meals consumed)<\/li><li>Calculation of gross\nsalary, statutory as well as non-statutory deductions, and arriving at the net\npay<\/li><li>Releasing employee salary<\/li><li>Depositing dues like TDS,\nPF, etc. with appropriate authorities and filing returns<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, in short, payroll process involves\narriving at what is due to the employees also called as \u201cnet pay\u201d after\nadjusting necessary taxes and other deductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Registration\nof company for Provident Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Provident Fund is an amount of funds\naccumulated through regular and monthly contributions made by an employee and\ntheir employer. That is the reason it allows the employees to save some part of\ntheir income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to EPFO rules, any company\nwhich has 20 or more employees should register for Provident Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the company fail to comply with rules\nand regulations, then it will be charged with hefty penalties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Now\nlet\u2019s see the calculation part of PF<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Employees\nProvident Fund (PF):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PF is applicable where employees are\n&gt;= 20. PF is deducted 12% on Basic Salary + Dearness Allowance (Earning\nAmount) as follows. If DA is not the part of salary structure, then PF will be\ncalculated 12% on Earned Basic Salary only:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) PF deduction restricted to qualifying\namount Rs.15000\/-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If PF deduction is restricted to\nqualifying amount of Rs. 5000\/-, then it is deducted 12 % on Rs.15000\/- or\nActual Earning amount whichever is less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) PF deduction not restricted to\nqualifying amount Rs. 15000\/-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If PF deduction is NOT restricted to\nqualifying amount of Rs. 15000\/-, then it is deducted 12 % on Basic Salary +\nDearness Allowance (Earning Amount). If DA is not the part of salary structure,\nthen PF will be calculated Earned Basic Salary only :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C] Provident Fund (Employers Contributions)\n:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The employer contributes equally to the\nemployee as follows :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Pension\nFund : @ 8.33% subject to a maximum of Rs. 1249\/- p.m. to be contributed to\nPension Scheme by employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; PF\nContribution: The difference between 12% &amp; 8.33% to be contributed to PF\naccount by the employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Provident\nFund Challan :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\/c No. 1 = Employer&#8217;s share of PF\ncontribution (12%) + Employee&#8217;s share of PF contribution (3.67%)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\/c No. 2 = Administrative charges @\n0.65% on Earning Amount<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\/c No. 10 = Employer&#8217;s Pension\ncontribution 8.33% <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\/c No. 21 = E.D.L.I. As per the ESIC\nAct, all the companies consisting of more than 20 employees whose monthly\nsalary falls under Rs.21,000 should register under the Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ESIC social security scheme brings\nreasonable healthcare to employees and their family members. As per this ESIC\nAct, its compulsory for all companies with more than 20 employees whose monthly\nsalary falls under 21,000 should register under this act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if the company falls under this act,\nthen the Employees CTC needs to be updated including the ESIC employer and\nemployee contribution<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Now\nlet\u2019s check the facts below <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Statutory Compliance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Profession Tax (PT) : <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PT is deducted on Gross Earning salary as\nper slabs. The PT slabs vary from state to state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PT slabs for Maharashtra State are as\nfollows :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From&nbsp;&nbsp; To\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tax&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>0.00 &nbsp;&nbsp; 7500&nbsp;&nbsp; 0.00&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7501&nbsp;&nbsp; \n10000 175&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10001 above 200 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Rs.300 \/- for Feb Month (2500\/year)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Female &#8211; Upto 10,000 = Nil<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees State Insurance Corporation\n(ESIC) :&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If ESIC is applicable to company, then it\nis deducted on Gross Earning Salary 1.75% Employee &amp; 4.75% Employer . <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ESIC applies to employees whose Gross\nMaster Salary is &lt;= 21,000 (wef. 1st Jan2017, earlier it was 15,000). The\nESIC eligibility has to check twice in a year (Apr. &amp; Oct.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gratuity\nAct, 1972<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The payment of Gratuity Act was passed in\nthe year 1972 and covers employees engaged in mines, factories, oil fields,\nplantations, companies and ports for more than ten employees. The gratuity\namount, unlike the provident fund, is totally paid by the employer without any\ncontribution from the employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any establishments where 10 or more\npersons are employed or were employed on any day of the preceding 12 months is\nliable to pay gratuity to its employees.
